Caliban's End

Ankaran

Ankarans are a remarkable people.  They are one of the Myr's oldest races and many of the temples that can be found amongst the jungles of Ankara were built at a time when the world was still relatively young.  Though they are an ancient race, little has changed about the Ankarans in thousands of years.  They are content to stay where they have always lived in the dense, wet jungles of the Myr's eastern continent.  Ankaran cities are built into riverbanks; some temples and palaces are only accessible by the river.

The Ankarans are an amphibious race, spending much of their day in the fast, deep flowing waters of the jungle rivers of their homeland.  They are one of the Myr's tallest races, only exceeded by the Kheperans.  Whilst they are bipedal on land, their movement through the water is assisted by long, webbed hands and a thick blade of a tail that sweeps back and forth much like the tail of a turtla.

Ankarans faces are distinguished by the absence of a nose.  A flat ridge runs down from the crest of their  heads to their wide, lipless mouths. A large dorsal fin rises from the top of the. From the sides of their heads dreadlocks hang all the way to the Ankarans’ waists.  Though not materialistic, the Ankarans are a people who like to adorn themselves in gold which is a common mineral in the impentrable northern region of their country.  An Ankaran’s eyes are large and lidless.  ironically, though their eyes are always open Ankarans are blind from the moment of their birth, the result of a disease that struck their race a number of centuries ago.

Ankarans' bodies are covered in copper-coloured scales which are kept moist by water stored in sacs on either side of their necks.

Ankarans share a number of traits with the Sapphyrro of Skyfall Town.  Not only are they as comfortable in the water as they are on land, but they also share the same gentleness of spirit.  The Ankarans have few enemies and have lived peacefully for thousands of years.  The only sign of aggression ever witnessed in an Ankarans has been by the mad, paranoid son of the Ankaran Emperor Tkal who once swore that he would wipe all races who could see from the face of the Myr because he believed them to be making faces at him whenever he appeared in public.  The Emperor ended the problem by confining his son to his chambers indefinitely.
