Originally from a small, nameless isle halfway between Susano and the Isle of Antaeus, Atsushi Hegira was one of the most skillful swordsmen to be found on the Myr.  His talents with the blade were soon recognised by Trojanu Sato who trained the young man personally alongside Atsushi Hegira and Yukio Ikiryo.  Hegira was known as the Smiling Death, as he never stopped smiling even in the midst of battles. 

Along with his two comrades-in-arms, Hegira was eventually appointed by the Emperor to perform the role of ensign aboard The Princess Orani to watch over Sumi Kimura.  Although this was intially against Trojanu's wishes - he did not believe his wife needed such protection - the three men accepted the assignment with the professional and dedication the Shogun had come to expect from them.
