Birren Brand was born only days after the Ghul first appeared in Morae.  She was a curious child like her mother and there were those among the coven such as Lissa Greaves who believed even at such a young age, that she showed all the signs of someone who would one day become an extremely powerful witch. 

Birren, however, was also prone to getting sick, and these were usually the type of maladies that only the physician who lived on the far side of the grove could heal.  Birren's mother Lara spent a great deal of time learning healing spells so she wouldn't have to travel to see the physican so often, but she usually found she could not conjure up anything more than a simple spell to stop a runny nose.
