The immortellis protea or bloater as it is more commonly known is one of the Myr's oddest inhabitants.  It can only be found in the deserts of Khepera and Helyas, although the Kobolds have tried - unsuccessfully - to breed them in Camulos on farms.  The Kobolds have been willing to exchange huge quantities of shatterstone for what is considered by many Myrrans to be a completely useless creature.

The bloater is hermaphroditic and is an extremely solitary creature choosing to live as far away from other creatures as possible, including its own kind.

However, the bloater cannot stay alone forever.  Even in the driest parts of the world, a creature that lives for over three hundred years will sooner or later experience rain and when the rain falls it sets in motion a natural event unlike any other in the Myr.  When an adult bloater is touched by water it immediately become pregnant and its labour is as violent as it is remarkable.  Its body doubles in size every few seconds as thousands of offspring come into existence within its expanding body. The bloater will grow to astounding proportions until its rubbery cnidarian skin bursts and countless young are thrown into the world.  At this early stage of their lives, the bloater's offspring aren't similarly affected by the presence of water which provides them with ample time to scatter across the desert to find a place of their own.
