Bombats

Indigeous to Sessymir, the bombat is a creature very few other Myrrans have ever seen.  The creatures live in ice caverns such as those the Sessymirians have carved out under the city of Nilfheim.

The Sessmirian miners of Strom Mir have found a extremely good use for the bombats and without the creatures, the Company would not have been able to delve as deeply as it has over thousands of years.

The bombats are spherical-shaped rodents that are brought into any cavern currently being worked on in the mine.  The bombat has no wings but it is able to hover in the air due to the natural gases that build up in its body.  These gases provide the bombat with bouyancy.  The greater the build up of gases the higher the bombat will float, so the Sessymirians have them tethered to railings in each of the rooms the bombats are needed.  As the bombat gets lighter, it changes colour, from a deep blue through to a rich red.

The bombat’s gaseous state inevitably culminate in a loud outburst of flatulence that can fill some of the smaller rooms; however, unlike most animals which produce methane, the biochemical process in the bombat produces pure oxygen, giving the miners access to clean, fresh air without the need for ventilation shafts.
