Carl Gramercy was a hard-working Nessan mariner who was well-liked by all who knew him.  He was a quiet man, but affable in his own way.  His love for the sea was unrivalled among his countrymen and he knew the ocean that separated Nessa from Scoriath and Tethra like no other. 

He had spent most of his life on the deck of a ship.  When he was fourteen, he served as a cabin boy upon The Speculation and was only one of a handful of people to survive a Sessymirian ambush upon the ship.  Despite the bloodshed he had witnessed on this day, he continued to serve on the ships that carved their way across the Nessan Sea until he had saved up enough money to purchase his own vessel  The Quawk's Revenge. 

At the age of thirty-three, Carl Gramercy met a young Helyan seamstress by the name of Diona Mediolanum.  They eventually married and had a boy and girl: Quintinius and Helena.  Sadly, Diona died during childbirth leaving the mariner to raise the twins on his own.
