Carpu

Carpu are the Myr's most common fish.  They breed in prodigious numbers and can be found in fresh and salt water.  The ocean-dwelling carpu is marked by distinctive orange stripes, whilst those found in the Myr's waterways tend to be smaller with muted colours such as brown and grey.

The carpu is a unique-looking fish no matter where it is found.  It can stretch out its neck to three times the length of its body.  The salt water carpu uses its elongated neck whenever searching for the eggs of squigga which are usually laid in tight alcoves in the bedrock of the Myr's oceans.  Fresh water carpu actually stick their heads out above the surface of rivers and pools to catch popflies and shatterbugs.

Unfortunately for the carpu, both species have incredibly slow reaction times for a fish.  They are easy prey for birds such as the horned crane, kestra and larida; some Myrrans have even caught the fish in their bare hands.

The carpu is a most edible fish, described by many of having the same succulent taste as roast shelp.
