The people of the Myr come in all shapes and sizes. Ignoring their claims to the contrary, the Tamuans are the shortest race; most people from Tamu do not exceed four foot. They are followed by Kobolds and Spriggans who generally rise to no more than five feet. At the other end of the scale, Kheperans can be as tall as eight feet (or ten if one counts the large horn that extends from their foreheads). The Kheperans are only rivalled by the plainspeople of Kolpia. Some Kolpians grow to nine feet in height, but their isolated existence has led to most Myrrans regarding the Kheperans as the tallest race. There are other three other beings upon the Myr whose size dwarfs that of the races mentioned here, but the Colossi of the Ganesa Plateau are not considered as being a race by the scholars of Caquix who deem themselves the experts on such matters.
Whilst the majority of Myrran races upon are bipedal, they do come in a wide range of shapes. The Tamuans are distinguished by a thick coat of quills upon their backs. The people of Tethra have a predilection for embedding plates of armour in their skin. The inhabitants of lush Ankara possess gills and webbed feet. A number of races do not even walk upon two legs. The serpentine Pryderi of Morae do not walk at all, possessing long ophidian bodies. By contrast, the Caquikki
are quadapeds with hooved feet. The Spriggans also walk upon hooves but that is where their physical resemblance to the people of Caquix ends.
Myrran society is not only characterised by an extraordinary degree of physical diversity. It also offers a multiplicity of cultures, belief systems and values. Some races are highly literate, notably the Spriggans who are lovers of language and the Caquikki who are obsessively devoted to the pursuit of knowledge. Whilst there are races preoccupied with the acquisition of money and personal belongings - particularly the Spriggans and Sessymirians, other races such as the Mabbits and the Keelii spurn all the trappings of progress preferring to live a life unencumbered by material possessions. Numerous races have established themselves through achievements of the battlefields, the most notable of these being the athletic Helyans, but others such as the benefic Sapphyrro and gentle Kolpians have chosen to lead a peaceful and humble life. And then there are the people that cannot be easily categorised, such as the brutish Tethrans who will think nothing of taking to someone with a mallet but love nothing more than spending a night at the Scarlet Rock Theatre listening to opera.
The Myr is vast and Myrrans employ a vast array of means of transportation, ranging from the mechanical to the natural and resourceful. A number of Myrran beasts are used to cross the wide spaces between settlements and cities. The most common among these is the snorse, a fleet-footed but occasionally irascible means of conveyance. Similarly popular are grizzum-led caravans and wagons. In Tethra's port city of Corra, the locals use muckmoths to fly to nearby destinations. There are rumours that in distant Cephalonia, the beautiful, rarely seen peg'ii are sometimes used to fly from island to island. Sessymirians use fifty-foot pulloks to transport miners around their ice collieries. The Acora suspend carriages under giant arthropods known as bobugs to cross the distance between Acoran and Cessair. There also exist stories of how the leviatha of the Oshalla Ocean once carried people vast distances underwater by allowing them to travel inside the sea beast's retractable air sacs, but it is unlikely this could ever be replicated - the leviatha have been hunted to the brink of extinction.
Over recent years, the work carried out on improving Cold technologies has led to more and more craft using engines fueled by the frozen fuel. The Acora and Sessymirians have developed massive Cold-powered ships that slice through the oceans, halving the time sailing ships took to cover trade routes. The Sessymrians have also developed Cold-powered sleds to cross the Slith, the vast inland ice tract that separates their cities. The Spriggans of Camulos use Cold to power their airships and rumours have abounded for years of the Caquikki's experiments to harness Cold energy to drive their own airships. Whilst no Caquikki airships are yet seen in Myrran skies, it is believed that it is only a matter of time before the Spriggans have to share the skyways with the Myr's other cloven-footed race. Numerous Myyrran races have demonstrated a tremendous ability to adapt and innovate. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in Camulos where an unfathomly massive collection of towers and cables called the Giant’s Web connects over 150 leagues of countryside.
Although the Myr seems to epitomised by disparity and difference, fairly successful attempts have been made to unify the the peoples of the world. Over the past 1000 years, the Assembly of Nations, the Myr's over-arching political institution has introduced countless changes to Myrran society, more often than not for the better. Whilst local dialects abound, centuries ago the Assembly ratified a decision for all countries to subscribe to a common language. Despite much early resistance, the efficiencies of trade this brought about gave the decree its own momentum and within three generations of Myrrans, an international tongue was entrenched in most countries.
In more recent times, Chamberlain Tiberius Llyr introduced drastic changes to the Myr's judiciary and penal systems, creating the role of the Magistrates to whom autonomy was given in matters regarding criminal behaviour. Whilst highly criticised at the time, the introduction of the Magistrates has led to a dramatic decrease in criminal behaviour across the Myr, except ironically in Brigantia where the headquarters of the Magistrates is located.
